/mnt/fastdata is scarce, fast network-attached persistent storage. It has about 4 TB nominal capacity and is reserved for persistent, explicitly bounded data that genuinely needs fast access, such as VM disks, container images, or latency-sensitive application state.
It is not a default Kubernetes application-data root and is never temporary storage. Do not place caches, CI/build workspaces, Docker or BuildKit scratch, intermediate results, unbounded logs, or large/growing datasets here.
The canonical placement and dataset contract is Storage placement policy.

This is critical utilization for shared infrastructure. Existing data must be assessed deliberately; this documentation change does not authorize deletion or relocation.
Before adding or expanding anything, document its owner, purpose, expected and maximum size, growth, retention, recovery needs, monitoring, and why local storage or /mnt/bigdata is unsuitable. Validate the live filesystem from inside the consuming workload.
Exhaustion or loss of this NFS share can disrupt unrelated infrastructure, including virtual machines and identity services. Workloads must fail closed before reaching that boundary.
