I write this story in retrospective, 3 years Later. It was one of these days which I will probably not forget. Or at least I hope so. It was one of these strange moments which lets you question reality.
Joey Aldoussry from the USA was visiting Swizerland and we decided to go sledding with him. We went up Jungfraujoch with the Gondola to sled down with traditional wodden sleds. There was almost no one besides us sledding down. The whole way down with the sled took multiple hours. We had a lot of fun together, Dominique, Joey and I.
The Part that stuck with me was that we were on a flat section, a 5-10 Minutes walk maybe 20-40 Minutes down by sled already. We were having a lot of fun and were joking how long it would roughly take to climb the full Mountain up and reconed Multiple Days, perhaps one week from its base. Sure enough, on the very next curve (!) we met a guy in what appeared to be very simple clothes, hiking boots hauling a Sled uphill on the sled was a kickscooter with broken handle bar and probably some rations I dont remember if he had a tent but I do remember the sled, a simplistic outfit and the broken Kickscooter on the sled.
It was an absolute crazy situation. That is not a trip to be done at ease and definitely not with the simple gear that guy had. He asked us if it was still far to the top. We were confused, mentioned that me may be able to get it today but it may take more than a day. He seemed quite pleased about the answer. We asked him what he was doing there, where he came from and how long he was already hiking up.
The guy said he was walking up for 3-4 days already. He was coming from the Himalaya Region by foot (!!!) and is currently travelling the world. It was absolutely unbelievable. But it was not his story that was unbelievable. That simple gear he had, and it took us down multiple hours from there by sled was absolutely crazy. That hike alone is unbelievable under normal circumstances. It's a story that normally no one would believe. But if you saw that guy, hiking up that mountain, in definitely not winter, let along climbing multiple thousand meters mountain in april by snow, that broken kickscooter, youd believe he in fact walked from himalaya to switzerland.
It strikes me that I encounter such situations frequently and the fact that we were joking about hiking up literally just 2-3 Minutes earlier is an unbelievable coincidence. Unfortunately I did not take a picture of him out of respect, I so have pictures of the trip... next time, I will make sure to ask.
