Considder a Prompt a Message which you send to the Artificial inntelligence.
The Artificial intelligence, called Assistant tries to answer your message as Best as it can.
Example Prompt:

Ai answer:
Hello! It's nice to meet you. Is there something I can help you with, or would you like to chat?
You could now follow up with any other Prompts (Messages).
The Primary use case of a prompt lies in its ability to send instructions to the assistant. The assistant then, as best as he can tries to solve the instructions given in the Prompt:

Here is a short poem:
Softly falls the evening dew
Twilight's hush, the stars shine through
A peaceful night, a quiet place
Where worries fade and love takes space.
This was a very short and simple instruction. The response was some random, nice little poem.
However, this simple prompt can be expanded The more precise you can describe the task and build instructions, the more precise the answers will be in general.
It is of utmost importance to choose words wisely. Small changes can have a drastic effect in interpretation of the task and the outcomes can differ vastly!
Example:
write a small poem about anything
A quiet night with stars aglow,
Soft whispers of the breeze;
The moonlight paints a silver show,
Through canopies of trees.Crickets sing their gentle tune,
A calmness fills the air;
In this stillness under the moon,
Peace is everywhere.
litterally, a poem about anything. Consider the contrase against this:
